Alvaro Tori, MD, joined the IU School of Medicine faculty in 2007 after completing his Internship and Residency at the school. Dedicated to the academic mission, he focuses on teaching pediatric critical care in a family-centered care environment. He is the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Riley Hospital at IU Health.
Dr. Tori's second appointment is Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs at Indiana University School of Medicine. He’s enthusiastic about his position in Diversity Affairs because it affords him the opportunity to increase representational diversity, inclusive working and learning environment, and cultural competency and humility training through his efforts with strategic programming at the school. Mentoring a diverse group of students, residents, fellows and faculty, Dr. Tori considers it a personal mission to influence the next generation of practitioners and ensure diversity among their ranks. His personal experience, as both a native of Peru and a member of the LGBTQ community, enables him to truly understand the importance of addressing diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in academic medicine and in the communities that we serve.
In his free time, Dr. Tori enjoys family activities with his husband, son and daughter and loves traveling back to Peru where he can share his Peruvian heritage.
