The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine comprises a vibrant community of talented scientists and educators. Associate Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

In the Hoang research group, our focus is to uncover the molecular pathways leading to the disease state and to design drugs that would block these pathways. To do this, we are examining the biochemical and biophysical properties of the proteins in these pathways to piece them together like assembling a puzzle and to use each piece of the puzzle as a framework to design drugs that block them from interlocking with each other.

Associate Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

The focus of the Takagi laboratory is to investigate the structure and function of large multi-protein complexes in gene expression in eukaryotes.  Our approach takes advantage of our expertise to generate multi-protein complexes in recombinant forms for structural and functional studies by utilizing the advanced protein complex expression technologies.

Faculty and students in this department are working at the forefront of research to probe the molecular mechanisms of cancer, diabetes and obesity, neurological disorders, infectious diseases, and alcoholism.

Graduate Degree Programs

The Meroueh Lab is working on developing small molecules to inhibit the cellular function of well-established oncogenes such as members of the RAS and Rho GTPase superfamilies, transcription factors such as the TEAD-YAP complex, and protein-protein interactions such as HPV E6 oncogenes and urokinase receptor.
