IU School of Medicine-West Lafayette offers clinical training for Phase Two and Three medical students. These experiences, known as clerkships, allow students to provide meaningful patient care as they work with practicing community physicians and become valued members of the health care team.
To facilitate mentoring and student-centered learning, students work individually with a community-based, clinical faculty from each of the Phase Two programs. Phase Three students may select from a variety of electives in addition to required clerkships.
Curriculum content, patient encounter requirements, final examinations and grade assignments are consistent with standardized statewide IU School Medicine clinical educational guidelines.
Phase Two (Year Three) clerkships are available in the following areas:
- Family Medicine
- Surgery (General)
- Surgery Subspecialty
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Plastic Surgery
