On behalf of our faculty, staff and trainees, I would like to welcome you to the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center (KCVRC). While IU has a long history of seminal contributions in cardiovascular medicine, KCVRC was founded in 2021 to reimagine the paradigms of cardiovascular research and expand the current understanding of CV disease and use this knowledge to develop novel diagnostics and therapeutics that ultimately make it possible to remove heart disease as the leading cause of death.
It is a tremendous honor for me to be the first executive director of the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center. We have assembled a highly accomplished interdisciplinary team of basic/translational scientists, physician scientists, biomedical engineers and staff to help us discover, design, develop and deploy the next generation of tools and targeted therapies.
KCVRC will propel the field of cardiovascular research at IU School of Medicine, ushering in a new era of a more technologically driven enterprise, where imaging, informatics, omics, artificial intelligence and engineering will play a greater role in basic, translational and clinical cardiovascular research. In a short span of two years, we have accomplished many firsts and established a trailblazing record for high impact research. We are poised to bring about transformational change in the way cardiovascular disease is diagnosed and treated.
With clinical studies being conducted across multiple centers nationally and internationally in collaboration with scientists at these various sites, KCVRC has a global footprint. In addition to this, we are a truly diverse family where our own team members come from a range of different cultural backgrounds and nationalities. It is an exciting time at KCVRC as we pursue new frontiers in cardiovascular research and clinical care.
