Hoosier Brain Health Registry

About 10% of Hoosiers who are 45 years and older are affected by memory or thinking concerns. More than 12% of Hoosiers 65 and older living in the Indianapolis area are affected by Alzheimer's dementia or other types of dementias. To address these major public health problems, the Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center seeks the help of Hoosiers to understand why some people develop memory or thinking concerns.

  • How does joining the Hoosier Brain Health Registry help my fellow Hoosiers?
Memory and thinking changes can be caused by various disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury or COVID-19. Research is vital to helping understand why these disorders affect the brain. Research also helps to develop new treatments to help those who have memory concerns and to prevent those people who are at risk for these memory problems. By signing up for the registry, you become connected to opportunities to join research studies focused on understanding brain health or brain disorders so you can help your fellow Hoosiers.
  • What types of studies are you offering?

The Center offers a wide range of studies based on your interest. You get to choose what types of studies you are interested in. Some opportunities include but are not limited to:

    • Surveys about your lifestyle or your attitude towards research participation
    • Studies which include paper pencil testing of memory and thinking skills and blood draws
    • Studies which include brain scans
    • Studies which offer lifestyle only (i.e., no medication) interventions
    • Studies focused on behavioral interventions to reduce caregiver burden
  • Who should sign up for Hoosier Brain Health Registry?
All adults who are interested are eligible! This includes but are not limited to people without memory concerns, people with mild memory or thinking changes, those with known brain disorders, and those who provide care or support for those with brain disorders.
  • What happens after I sign up for the Hoosier Brain Health Registry?
By joining the registry, you will be asked to submit basic information such as your name, contact information and demographics. The Center will also ask you to complete a brief, secure and confidential questionnaire online. This information will be used to match you with research studies.

Joining the registry gives the Center permission to be contacted if it appears you may be a good match for a study. You will choose whether to join the study after you learn more about that opportunity.
