Program History and Timeline

1903
IU School of Medicine is established in Bloomington, IN.

1906
Third-year medical students begin clinical study in Indianapolis.

1958
IU School of Medicine moves to Indianapolis.

1971
Statewide medical education centers are established.

2021
IU School of Medicine creates the Urban Medicine Program housed at the Northwest-Gary campus.

2022
IU School of Medicine matriculates the first class of Urban Medicine Program students.
