Amanda Benaderet, MD, MPH, has been appointed the assistant dean for curriculum, Phase 2. Benaderet, assistant professor of clinical pediatrics, also serves as the assistant statewide course director and Indianapolis site leader for Foundations of Clinical Practice, a course director for Fundamentals of Health and Disease and co-director for the Public Health Scholarly Concentration. She is also co-chair of the IU School of Medicine Academic Standards Committee.
Over the past 10 years, Benaderet has recruited, interviewed and/or mentored medical students, pediatric residents, pediatric hospital medicine fellows and faculty. She has also participated in the Clinician Educator Training Pathway program, has served as an instructor in the IU School of Medicine Pediatrics Clerkship and has hosted rotating residents and fellows.
Benaderet brings to her new role insight into the interconnectedness of all three curricular phases at IU School of Medicine and considerations for effective curriculum delivery on all nine campuses.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at IU Bloomington, Benaderet earned a Master of Public Health at IU in 2003, followed by her MD degree at IU School of Medicine in 2008. She completed pediatric residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham/Children’s of Alabama. She completed one year of pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and later joined the clinical faculty at CHOP as an attending pediatric hospitalist. She returned to her home state of Indiana in 2013 to join the faculty as a member of the pediatric hospitalist group at Riley Children’s Health.
Benaderet is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and belongs to the AAP Section of Hospital Medicine. She is also a member of the Academic Pediatric Association, the Directors of Clinical Skills Education and the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Educational Affairs.
