Message from the Directors

Welcome to the Musculoskeletal Health Sciences graduate program at Indiana University School of Medicine. This is the first and only graduate program in the country that focuses on both academic and research excellence in musculoskeletal health!

The Musculoskeletal Health Sciences PhD program offers a truly interdisciplinary educational experience. It integrates expertise from the Schools of Medicine, Health & Human Sciences and Biomedical Engineering to provide students with a diverse range of training opportunities. Our more than 100 faculty members conduct internationally recognized, state-of-the-art musculoskeletal health research in a wide spectrum of specialty areas including: bioinformatics; biomedical engineering; cancer and chemotherapy; diabetes; exercise; genetics; mechanobiology; muscle/bone crosstalk; nutrition; precision medicine; and trauma, rehabilitation and regeneration.

Regardless of specialty research interest, the Musculoskeletal Health Sciences PhD program provides a solid foundation in musculoskeletal knowledge while also maintaining flexibility to allow students to customize their plans of study to meet their individual goals. We encourage our students to engage and interact with other students, postdocs, and faculty members to become well rounded and outstanding scientists. Musculoskeletal Health students are invited to participate in a variety of activities including journal clubs, formal and informal data presentations, and luncheons with invited speakers. Through these opportunities we strive to train our graduates to become highly sought-after experts in this vibrant field.

We look forward to hearing from you and contributing to your success!
