Resident Rotation

The core hosts two imaging informatics rotations for fourth-year radiology residents and medical physics residents throughout the year. This rotation covers a broad spectrum of topics including imaging data flow, analyzing data, radiologist workflow and supporting technologies, privacy and security.

Fellowship Certificate

Starting in 2022, fellows can opt in to the Imaging Informatics fellowship certificate in addition to their subspecialty fellowship. This program allows them one academic day per week devoted to imaging informatics study through didactic, self-paced and real-world experience. The fellow completes the certificate through a rigorous test of knowledge, and research or clinical quality project.

Informatics Practicums and Internships

Imaging Informatics hosts practicums and internships for undergrad and graduate students in informatics or computer science related degrees. These opportunities allow students to gain experience in the field completing real-world projects while being mentored by our investigators and support staff.

Quick Facts

  • How is imaging informatics incorporated into radiology training?
Imaging Informatics facilitates three to four lectures per year for radiology residents in imaging and clinical informatics. The group also works with residents to ensure research is completed in a safe way, using the best tools available. This provides an easy-to-use, safe environment for residents to grow their skills in informatics and beyond.
  • Are there education opportunities for medical and/or graduate students?
Yes! Imaging Informatics routinely hosts interested students to complete internships, practicums, research and clinical quality improvement projects. The core has many projects available for interested students and can help facilitate access to data and mentoring, as well.
  • Are CME credits available?
Yes. Imaging Informatics does continuing medical education lectures throughout the year over a wide variety of imaging informatics topics. Ask about upcoming lecture times.
  • Is there a difference between imaging and clinical informatics?
Yes. Imaging Informatics is a subspecialty of clinical informatics that focuses on health care images, including quality, data flow, presentation and analysis. This subspecialty exists due to the extreme differences in workflow and data types an imaging specialist doctor encounters.
  • What student projects are currently available in imaging informatics?
    • Student Projects in Imaging Informatics
    • Research Scheduling to DICOM Worklist
    • Displaying C-CDA in Web View Using FHIR
    • PowerBI Dashboarding with Radiology Metadata
    • RECIST Calculator and Longitudinal Tracking
    • Interventional Radiology Operative Note Natural Language Processing
