When it comes to great role models, the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences trainees go above and beyond. They are engaged in many aspects of the field of radiology, demonstrating the types of professional opportunities available and providing a guidepost for what the future can hold in the department and radiology as a whole. By connecting with students in the local community and medical students from around the world, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) Committee demonstrates the broad scope of a career in the radiological sciences with the aim of creating a diverse pipeline for its workforce. Diversity in radiology is essential to continue to foster innovation and collaboration and to better address existing disparities in health care.

Programs and opportunities
The department's DEIJ Trainee Recruitment and Outreachsubcommittee established a region-wide Hispanic Radiology Student Interest Group and recently developed information sessions with current Latinx residents and faculty members. In conjunction with department residency directors, the DEIJ Trainee Recruitment and Outreach subcommittee is involved in the Women in Radiology Group and developed a second-look program for underrepresented in medicine (URM) resident applicants. In 2020, the subcommittee's efforts included sponsoring and exhibiting at the regional Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) national meetings. With the help of current residents and faculty, the subcommittee also held a live info session and interesting case presentations for URM medical students. Current plans include the formation of multiple affinity groups within the next year, including a Black Radiology Interest Group, an Asian-American Pacific Islander Interest Group, an LGTQIA+ group and an ally (#HeforShe) work group.

Creating a pipeline
The department's DEIJ Trainee Recruitment and Outreach subcommittee diligently works to develop a pipeline for underrepresented trainees to join faculty in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences. Department DEIJ efforts work to connect with IU School of Medicine medical student organizations (AMWA, Radiology Student Interest Group and others) and encourage participation in shadowing, elective rotations, research opportunities and more.Trainee Recruitment and Outreach Members
