Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology
The Department of Psychiatry is now accepting applications for a one-year psychology postdoctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology. The purpose of the fellowship program is to train clinical health psychologists with a specialty in serving the diverse and complex population of medically ill patients treated at IU Methodist Hospital and the Advanced Heart and Lung Care Clinic, which serve individuals across the state of Indiana and beyond.
The clinical health psychology training in this program has an emphasis in cardiac-pulmonary behavioral medicine and transplant psychology. Fellows will have the opportunity to train in both outpatient and medical inpatient settings conducting both evaluation and intervention services. Pre-transplant evaluations, individual psychotherapy, consultation-liaison services and group therapy interventions are part of the clinical protocol. As part of the transplant program at IU Health, the fellow may have the opportunity to do a specialty rotation in abdominal/solid organ transplant at University Hospital.
In addition to these clinical experiences, fellows will also be involved in additional research experiences, as well as clinical supervision of pre-doctoral psychology interns or psychology practicum students. Opportunities for fellows to teach or supervise at IU School of Medicine may be part of the training experience. Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship, Pediatric Pain
The Department of Psychiatry is now accepting applications for a one or two year (two preferred) postdoctoral fellowship position in pediatric pain psychology with a preferred start date in August or September 2021. This fellowship position is offered in collaboration with the Department of Psychology at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the Department of Anesthesia at IU School of Medicine.
Fellow time is split (50/50) between clinical and research activities. Clinical training focuses on developing a specialized expertise in pediatric pain psychology through work in a multidisciplinary pain clinic at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Fellows will have the opportunity to provide psychological evaluation and intervention services in the Pediatric Pain Center. Other clinical training opportunities may include biofeedback, pre-surgical evaluations and consultation liaison services for patients medically hospitalized for pain-related conditions or chronic pain rehabilitation.
Research training will occur within the IUPUI Pain Research Laboratory. The research opportunities are varied and abundant, including clinical and laboratory-based research with children and adults. Fellows will collaborate with training directors to develop a research plan for the fellowship that incorporates the fellow’s interests and career goals. Opportunities exist for fellows to gain experience in teaching, supervision, program development and quality improvement projects.
Eligible applicants will have 1) a doctoral degree conferred from an APA accredited program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, and 2) completed a pre-doctoral internship or anticipate completion prior to beginning of the fellowship. Experience in pediatric psychology, including pediatric pain, is preferred. Applications should include a CV and letter of interest.
