I was born in Indiana but grew up near Charleston, South Carolina. My undergraduate degree is from Clemson University. Go Tigers! After undergraduate, I worked for several years researching pediatric sickle cell disease. Although I didn't realize it at the time, it was recognizing the challenges with the transition from pediatric to adult care, that first sparked my interest in Med-Peds. I attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Greenville for medical school, which solidified my interest in Med-Peds and hospital medicine. Most importantly though, it is where I met my wife!
When my wife and I were couples matching into Peds and Med-Peds, we wanted to find a large academic program that still maintained a close-knit, family feel. Despite being the largest Med-Peds program in the country, the family-like atmosphere at IU was obvious to us during our interviews. The residents were very close, and the program leadership was very receptive to couples matching and our desire to start a family during residency. For my personal career goals, I was looking for a program with a strong Med-Peds presence that placed an emphasis on medical education. You won't have to spend much time at IU to realize that Med-Peds is everywhere! From the Riley ED to Eskenazi ICU and everywhere in between you will be working with Med-Peds faculty, fellows, and residents. In addition to making a great work environment, the large number of Med-Peds faculty makes finding mentorship for residents very easy. It also doesn't take long to recognize how strongly education is emphasized at IU. We are associated with the largest medical school in the country so there are many medical students on our teams, and our interns to play a large role in teaching them from day one. Our program also offers a Clinical Educator Training Pathway (CETP) for residents planning to pursue a career in academia. Nevertheless, we do understand that it is not everyone's goal to be an academic hospitalist, so if you want to work in a private outpatient clinic or be a congenital heart specialist in Kenya, IU Med-Peds has every resource to help you reach your goals!
As chief, I hope to help guide our residents as they continue to develop both personally and professionally. I plan to use my interests in medical education, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based medicine to improve the already phenomenal patient care provided by our residents. More importantly, I want to encourage an environment that places an emphasis on kindness and compassion for everyone despite their race, gender, or sexual orientation. Lastly, I want to provide our residents with skills that will allow them to have careers in medicine without many of the stressors that lead to physician burnout.
My co-chief Harrison and I wish you the best of luck during recruitment season, and we are excited show you the things that make IU great!

Born in Ohio, raised in Houston, and arriving in Indiana by way of South Carolina (with a brief stint in China), I’ve known my fair share of “homes” over the years. My wife says she knew IU would be our new home from a five-minute phone call after my residency interview. It’s true: from my first IU experience, I knew I had found my people. IU has a wealth of experiences with multiple different hospitals that cater to a broad and diverse patient population from across Indiana and beyond. I knew I would have a well-rounded clinical experience while being exposed to amazing co-residents, faculty and staff who I will be able to call my friends for the rest of my life. We have been so fortunate to call Indianapolis home for the past 3+ years, and I am truly honored to serve my program as one of the 2021-2022 Chief Residents.
I was drawn to medicine after completing a forensic pathology internship while a student at Clemson University. While initially interested in pathology during medical school at MUSC, I found myself interested in a little bit of everything - though especially internal medicine and pediatrics. During last block of third year, I was fortunate to have the Med-Peds program director as an attending and found myself making the- somewhat last minute- decision to pursue Med-Peds residency!
I aspire to a career as a combined hospitalist, starting with a fellowship in Pediatric Hospital Medicine. While I love the diagnosis and management of complex adult conditions, there is something so special about watching children get better. My secondary passion lies in medical education, and I hope one day to become involved in residency program leadership, much like Dr. Brady. My hobbies include pickup soccer with my co-residents, gaming of all kinds, wrangling my Catahoula leopard dog, and taking trips with my wife. Indiana University has been the perfect place for me to learn how to be a physician. I could not be more honored to train at IU.
