During my interview at IU, I percieved a friendly environment, dedicated faculty, and organized staff. I knew this would be a program I would thrive both professionally and personally. I'm very excited to be here.
I like spending time with family and friends, cooking, traveling, and exploring new places!
Dermatopathology
Tim Wysozan, MD
The program has a reputation of creating fantastic pathologists, several of which I was fortunate enough to work with as a medical student. I was also drawn in by how happy the fellows seemed, and how they all seemed to get along well. The location was also appealing. Indianapolis is a great place to live. I enjoy cooking, baking, and volunteering whenever I can. I also enjoy being outdoors, and I love to go for runs on the canal, camping, and hiking. I am always on the lookout for new breweries and restaurants, especially when they host trivia nights.
Carlo De la Sancha, MD
I chose Indiana University for my fellowship because I did my residency here, and I have seen firsthand how much they care about teaching and training well-rounded pathologists. At the same time, a friendly, collegial environment always motivates me to learn, ask questions, and seek help without hesitation.
In my free time, I like to read dermatopathology books and … just kidding. I like to play sports, cook, eat delicious foods, and stop by my co-fellows and residents' cubicles to chat about anything.
Forensics
Tyler Haffler, MD
I chose IU for Forensic training because of the variety and volume of cases that can be seen at the County Coroner's Office.
I enjoy trying new places to eat and visiting local breweries in my spare time.
Gastrointestinal Pathology
Mohammed Saad, MBBS
Gastrointestinal and liver pathology service here at IU is a perfect fit for me. The diversity of cases, pathologists’ dedication to teaching and training, and the niceness of everyone in the team makes it a wonderful enjoyable experience.
Genitourinary Pathology
Kingsley Ebare, MBBS
The genitourinary pathology fellowship program is one of the top programs in the country with renowned faculty who have made profound contributions in urologic pathology. I was told by a former fellow that this program is a goldmine of interesting GU pathology cases and I have seen this for myself already. I think I am having the best time of my training years. The beautiful campus also provides an appealing learning environment. The city is calm yet vibrant in so many respects. I love the beautiful long trails and the sound of chirping birds on weekends when I take long walks. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching and playing soccer and travelling.
Irem Kilic, MD
Genitourinary pathology is one of my passions. Indiana University has a long history in the development and advancement of urologic surgery and pathology. The GU fellowship is a priceless opportunity to learn from the best pathologists in the field.
Besides pathology, I love cooking, baking, and dancing. I also like to play tennis and golf.
Mustafa Goksel, MD
The department is very collegial. The sense of community among the residents and fellows is tremendous. The faculty are enthusiastic about teaching. I have been privileged to be trained by expert pathologists in a genitourinary training program with a diverse caseload and challenging consult cases.
Outside of work I like cooking, traveling for a good food, and playing Apex Legends.
Hematopathology
Sampson Boham, MD
I chose IU because I wanted a supportive yet high educational environment. The faculty are dedicated, passionate about sharing knowledge, and genuinely care about their residents. I could see the natural camaraderie between residents, staff, and faculty in the department. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing and watching soccer games, taking road trips, playing ping-pong, watching movies, and fishing.
Surgical Pathology
Rebecca Czaja, MD
Microbiology
Haseeba Khan, MBBS
Kenneth Gavina, PhD
What drew me to IU School of Medicine was the state-of-the-art pathology laboratory, volume of testing and clinical exposure, broad research opportunities, and excellent teachers. My current academic interests include diagnostic test development, laboratory automation, and molecular pathology.
My non-academic interests include cooking, over-caffeinating, and hiking. I am also a nationally certified coach for Olympic Weightlifting and would like to one day compete in the IWF Masters Weightlifting Championships.
Lauren Franco, PhD
I was drawn to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at IU School of Medicine because of the broad area that the clinical microbiology lab covers, the unique research opportunities, and the excellent mentorship. I am particularly interested in antibiotic resistance and stewardship and the intersection of hospital clinical labs with public health labs. Outside of the work, I enjoy camping and hiking with my family, baking, and gardening.
