2022 Educational Update

Education is at the heart of the work done at IU School of Medicine. The school offers a robust learning and teaching environment to prepare the next generation of healers and transform health. IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the nation. Comprised of five basic science departments and 20 clinical departments, IU School of Medicine offers exceptional training for students wishing to pursue a medical degree. With the Class of 2020, the school implemented a new medical education curriculum that better reflects the modern U.S. health care environment and delivery models, readying students to practice medicine in a team-based, interdisciplinary setting.

Educational Programs

IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the United States. Comprised of five basic science departments and 20 clinical departments, IU School of Medicine offers exceptional training for students wishing to pursue a medical degree. excellence. For more than 60 years, the department has attracted the best and brightest medical students, residents, and fellows. Our surgical trainees are at the forefront of medicine and assist the department’s faculty physicians in providing impeccable patient care, using the most advanced technologies.

We have a competitive five-year residency program, three one-year fellowship opportunities, as well as a clerkship for third-year medical students and an array of electives.

The department’s residency program offers a broad spectrum of experiences that build upon the knowledge and skills obtained during medical school. Training focuses on clinical skills and compassionate patient care; achievement of professional competencies; acquisition of medical knowledge; and achievement of scholarly activity through research.

Meet Our Faculty

Our world-class faculty members are highly trained in an array of orthopaedic subspecialties and are committed to the continuation of orthopaedic excellence. The faculty consists of 35 surgeons and four researchers. They are experienced in trauma, bone healing and regeneration, biomechanics, total joint replacement and sports medicine.
