The educational goals of the fellowship are:
  • With a mentor, formulate a question that can be elucidated through laboratory research
  • Submit an IRB, IACUC, or IBC proposal and work through approval (if applicable)
  • Research the disease state entity and understand the fundamentals of the disease process and how this relates to the basic science research being undertaken
  • Aid in the preparation of a manuscript or abstract
  • Present the research at a departmental case conference and, ideally, an external meeting
  • Learn about ophthalmology subspecialties and research through clinical shadowing, case conferences, seminars, journal clubs, and simulator use

The one-year program runs from June to June.

Applications will be accepted starting immediately following Ophthalmology Match Day. Only applicants who have participated in the match but remain unmatched will be eligible to apply. Please send a one page personal statement to msenecal@iu.edu detailing your interest in the position and any prior research experience. Finalists will be interviewed.
