INDIANAPOLIS — Derron L. Bishop, Ph.D., has been named director and associate dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine-Muncie. He will assume the position Dec. 1.
Dr. Bishop, who is currently an adjunct associate professor of cellular and integrative physiology at IU School of Medicine-Muncie, has served as interim director and interim associate dean for the past year. He joined the IU faculty in 2002 as the director of the physiology course at the Muncie medical education program.
A native of Canton, Ill., Dr. Bishop completed a master’s degree in physiology at Ball State University and a doctorate in neurosciences from Washington University, St. Louis. A dedicated educator, Dr. Bishop received an IU Trustee Teaching Award in 2008 and was named the Outstanding Professor in Basic Sciences in 2013.
The IU School of Medicine-Muncie is one of the nine campuses where IU medical students are taught basic and clinical sciences. Other medical education campuses are in Bloomington, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Lafayette, Northwest (Gary), South Bend and Terre Haute.
Dr. Bishop succeeds T. Stuart Walker, Ph.D., who served as associate dean and director from 2006 to 2013.
