John T. Lind, MD

John Lind, MD, became a glaucoma specialist and board certified ophthalmologist because it allows him to form lifelong relationships with patients while treating this chronic disease. His goal is to preserve patients' vision in the most holistic and beneficial way, whether it’s through medical, laser and surgical options.

Lind has been named a Best Doctors in America, Castle Connolly Top Doctor and Saint Louis Magazine as a “Top Doctor.”

Lind is a 2004 graduate of IU School of Medicine and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology, as well as a certificate in Business Foundations.

He completed his transitional internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in 2005; a three-year residency in ophthalmology at Saint Louis University Eye Institute in Missouri in 2008; and a fellowship in glaucoma at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2009. He was named the chief resident in 2017.

Dr. Lind received the F. Harrison Jerrold Most Outstanding Resident Award in 2008 and the Roya Rabbini Excellence in Patient Care in 2007 and 2008. He was named the prestigious SLUCARE Ambassador for Excellence in Patient Care in 2007.

Dr. Lind was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Saint Louis University and became an Associate Professor at Washington University in Saint Louis in 2017. Dr. Lind was named the Professor of the Year at Saint Louis University in 2011 and Washington University in Saint Louis in 2019. Dr. Lind has trained nearly 100 residents and 10 glaucoma fellows as well as being a mentor to hundreds of medical students.

He returned to IU School of Medicine in 2019 as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Assistant Director of Medical Student Education.

Dr. Lind is the co-founder and co-course director of the Innovations in Glaucoma Surgery Continuing Medical Education Program and the Saint Louis Glaucoma Fellows Conference.

He is a reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, Journal of Glaucoma and Journal of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology as well as being an investigator in the Primary Tube versus Trabeculectomy Trial (PTVT), IIHTT NIH study, Aquasys Shunt Study, Bimatoprost SR, and Perrigo Studies. He was awarded the Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in 2019.

Dr. Lind serves on the Subspecialty Day Program Committee for Glaucoma; a reviewer for the glaucoma section of the Annual Program; Preferred Practice Patterns (PPP) in Glaucoma Committee; and is a section editor of the ONE Network for the AAO. He has served as the Surgery Day Co-Chair, Planning Committee, Fellowship Review Committee, Strategic Planning and Bylaws Committee, Member Education Task Force and Advocay and Government Relations Committee for the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).

His research interests include glaucoma surgical devices, complications of glaucoma surgery and medical education. He has published articles concerning cornea, ocular microbiology and glaucoma.
