Bio

Dr. Umphress completed medical school at Indiana University where he was awarded the Carleton D. Nordshow Award and ICPI Pathology National Honor Society Award for outstanding student in Pathology. Dr. Umphress continued his medical training by completing a combined AP/CP residency at Northwestern McGaw Medical Center in Chicago, IL. At Northwestern he was awarded the Outstanding First Year Resident Award in Autopsy and was awarded as the 2019 Anatomic Pathology Resident of the Year. Subsequent to residency, Dr. Umphress completed an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City where he received specialized training in cancer diagnostics. He finished his training by completing the Dermatopathology Fellowship at Indiana University, where he is now a faculty Surgical Pathologist and Dermatopathologist.

Dr. Umphress is the recipient of the Indiana University Anatomic Pathology Faculty Educator of the Year Award for 2022-2023 and is currently serving as the Pathology Associate Residency Program Director.
