Bio

Martha Rodríguez, MD, is a faculty member at Riley Hospital for Children IU Health Academic Health Center. She provides care for children and teenagers with a variety of rheumatologic diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus, childhood arthritis, dermatomyositis, vasculitis and musculoskeletal pain. She has particular interest in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and mental health. She is participating in multiple multi-center studies investigating depression and anxiety in youth with SLE and other chronic rheumatic diseases, as well as ways to enhance effective interventions in patients with SLE affected with depression and anxiety. She is also one of the leaders of the Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and mental health reseach group.  She is the leader in a multicenter study investigating the characteristics of Juvenile idiopathic Arthritis based on ethnicity with centers here in the US and Latin America.

 

Dr. Rodríguez obtained her medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra Medical School, Dominican Republic. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the San Juan City Hospital, Puerto Rico and did her fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of Chicago, Comer’s Children Hospital. She currently holds membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics, AmericanCollege of Rheumatology and The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliances.

    Dr. Rodríguez participates in multiple multicenter studies and clinical trials of drugs to treat children with rheumatic diseases. She also participates in clinical registries to define the characteristics and to better define the disease pattern of a variety of rheumatologic conditions. She is the leader of a multicenter study with centers in US and Latin America comparing the  clinical characteristics, physician assessment of disease activity, parent/subject assessment of disease activity and pain and presence/absence of imaging evidence of joint damage among Hispanic patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis vs Non-Hispanic patients.She is also participating in a multicenter study in US and Canada screening depression and anxiety in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
