Bio

Dr. Kristin La Fortune, M.S., M.D. completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Biomedical Engineering.  She was awarded the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship to complete her Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering with a research emphasis in tissue engineering.  She also interned at Kimberly-Clark Corporation with a focus on claims substantiation for consumable products.

After graduate school, she volunteered for the AmeriCorps in Boston, Massachusetts serving at community health centers affiliated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.  Following a brief backpacking tour through Europe, she returned to Madison, Wisconsin to earn her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.  She was selected as a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Hubert Global Health Fellow and facilitated in a vaccination trial in Nairobi, Kenya.

She completed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia.  During her residency, she received a scholarship through the American Society of Clinical Pathology to travel to Madagascar and serve as a volunteer pathologist.  She also worked as a local medical examiner for the Virginia Department of Health.  Following residency, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she completed her subspecialty training in Cytopathology at Indiana University Health. 

Currently, she provides pathology services to Deaconess Health System in Evansville, Indiana.  She recently joined Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Kristin La Fortune is dedicated to teaching and served as the resident director for medical student education during her residency.  Furthermore, her passion for public health has broadened her perspective on the treatment of health and disease.  She is an active member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), and American Society of Cytopathology (ASC).

During her personal time, she enjoys international travel, rock climbing, and fermenting kombucha.  She recently became a certified Barre instructor and hopes to expand her personal training experience to include yoga.  She frequently returns to the Virginias where she was born to hike the Appalachian Trail and visit friends.
