Dr. Jenkins currently serves as Associate Professor of Surgery. He was inspired to pursue a career in medicine while serving as an elementary school teacher in Baltimore through Teach for America. Dr. Jenkins graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he also completed general surgery residency and a surgical critical care fellowship. Subsequently, Dr. Jenkins served as a Robert Wood Johnson clinical scholar at the University of Michigan, where he obtained a master’s degree in Health and Health Care Research.

Dr. Jenkins has worked extensively with the Indiana Department of Health to advance the delivery of care for injured patients through the statewide trauma system, and he currently serves as their Senior Trauma Systems Analyst. Dr. Jenkins’ research complements his work as a policy advisor at IDOH, and it primarily focuses on the outcomes of injured patients and opportunities for quality improvement. His work has been published in multiple prominent journals such as JAMA and Annals of Surgery. Dr. Jenkins’ research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and numerous state contracts.

Dr. Jenkins’ clinical focus has been on the practice of acute care surgery, a broad discipline which encompasses emergency general surgery, trauma surgery and surgical critical care. Dr. Jenkins has developed particular expertise in the management of complex chest wall injuries requiring surgical reconstruction.
