Bio

Dr. Gray joined the faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine in August 2016 as an Assistant Professor of Surgery.  He is originally from Carmel, IN, and he attended the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate degree, graduating summa cum laude.  He received his M.D. degree from Vanderbilt University and then completed general surgery training at the University of Michigan.  During that time, he completed a two-year extracorporeal life support (ECMO) fellowship where he researched novel applications of ECMO technology and therapies, particularly the Artificial Placenta.  Upon completion of general surgery training, Dr. Gray proceeded to pediatric surgery fellowship at Riley Hospital for Children. Upon graduation, Dr. Gray joined the pediatric surgery group where he serves as the Surgical Director of ECMO.

Dr. Gray has a clinical interest and practice in all areas of pediatric surgery, with a specific academic interest in working to improve the safety and efficacy of ECMO care.  He also enjoys working to improve the diagnosis and management of infants with congenital malformations.  He has received several teaching awards and is active in the ongoing development of the Indiana University general surgery residency and pediatric surgery fellowship.  He is the faculty representative for general surgery resident wellness and the associate program director for the pediatric surgery fellowship.  He is board certified in adult and pediatric general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
