Bio

Richard V. Scheer, MD, joined the faculty at Indiana University as an assistant professor of clinical neurology in 2017. He founded the fellowship program in 2022.  

Dr. Scheer earned his undergraduate degree at Wabash College and his medical degree from IU School of Medicine. He completed his neurology residency at IU School of Medicine and his vascular neurology fellowship at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Scheer’s primary academic interests are medical education and quality improvement. He lectures annually to medical students, residents and fellows on stroke and neurology topics. Dr. Scheer’s quality improvement projects at Indiana University have included implementing routine ambulatory cardiac monitoring for embolic stroke patients, the development of an interdisciplinary heart-brain team which has developed algorithms, and protocols to help standardize the evaluation and treatment of PFO related stroke at the University.

In his free time, Dr. Scheer enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing golf, cooking and enjoying fine food and drink.
