Michael C. Dalsing, MD

Michael C. Dalsing, MD, is Professor Emeritus at Indiana University School of Medicine and serves as a vascular surgeon for IU Health Physicians. He attended St. Mary’s College (Winona, Minnesota- B.A in Biology - 1974) with matriculation to The Medical College of Wisconsin with M.D. degree obtained in 1978. He completed General Surgery training at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1983, and completed a Vascular Surgery fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois in 1984. He is board certified in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Dalsing joined the Indiana University faculty as an assistant professor in 1984 and became the first director of Vascular Surgery in 1987 at its inception. He obtained AOA recognition in 1988. He rose through the ranks to become full professor in 1994 and the first E. Dale and Susan E. Habegger Professor of Surgery in 2004. Dr. Dalsing initiated and led the IU Independent Vascular Surgery Training Program (2000) and Integrated Vascular Surgery Training Program (2008).

His clinical and research focus is in Vascular Surgical care on all levels with special emphasis in chronic venous disease, carotid occlusive disease, aortic aneurysms and lower extremity vascular occlusive disease. Most recently his interest centers on advocacy for quality vascular care access for all.

Dr. Dalsing has a long and distinguished career in academic surgery. He has been president of the Indiana Chapter - American College of Surgeons, the American Venous Forum, the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society and the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery. He is a member of numerous prestigious surgical societies and has been chairperson of several regional and national societal committees. Dr. Dalsing is currently president of the Society for Vascular Surgery. He has served on many SVS committees over the years with a keen interest in its research, advocacy, educational and quality missions. A lifelong learner, Dr. Dalsing just completed an MBA from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.

He has given more than 200 medical presentations throughout the world including Japan, Australia, South America and Europe, and has published more than 160 peer-reviewed journal articles and written more than 40 book chapters.
