Bio

Dr. Selzer currently serves as the Willis D. Gatch Professor of Surgery, Program Director of the Fellowship for Advanced Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery, Chief of the Division of General Surgery and Associate Chair of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Selzer received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin and his graduate degree in clinical research from Indiana University.

His clinical focus is in general surgery and includes bariatric or weight loss surgery, surgical management of gastroesophageal reflux and other foregut diseases and common and complex abdominal hernia repair.   

Dr. Selzer’s research focus is in optimizing outcomes for bariatric surgery, anti-reflux surgical procedures and complex hernia repair. He has served as a principal investigator or site principal investigator to more than 3 multisite hernia trials, and lead, senior, or contributing author to more than 40 peer reviewed publications.

Dr. Selzer is a member of the multiple professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Foregut Society (AFS), American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Americas Hernia Society (AHS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). In addition to committee membership in several organizations, he currently serves as an Indiana At-Large Representative to the ACS Board of Governors and the Vice Chair of the ACS General Surgery Coding and Reimbursement Committee.
