Bio

Christine Groves, MD, MPH, FAAPMR, is proud to call Indianapolis her hometown. After completing her residency training at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, North Carolina, she returned to IUSM as faculty in 2011.

Specializing in neurorehabilitation and health equity, Dr. Groves is a global advocate for accessible rehabilitation services and PM&R education. She has devoted a significant portion of her professional life to work in Nepal, where she partners with Spinal Injury Sangh Nepal. Together, they strive to expand rehabilitation services for individuals who have experienced spinal cord injury and stroke. Most recently, they have developed Nepal's first PM&R training program, equipping local physicians to expand the reach of PM&R throughout their communities.

Back in Indianapolis, Dr. Groves provides vital outpatient neurorehabilitation services to patients at Eskenazi Health, with a focus on spinal cord injury, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. As part of her comprehensive approach to patient care, she also provides medical acupuncture for individuals with acute and chronic pain. Additionally, Dr. Groves is an active health systems researcher. Her work centers on improving access to care and reducing healthcare inequities for individuals following stroke and other potentially disabling conditions.

Dr. Groves serves on the Association of Academic Physiatrists' Global Academic Physiatry Subcommittee and writes test questions for the American Board of PM&R, helping to ensure the highest standards of care and competence among future practitioners.
