Southwest Indiana Graduate Medical Education Consortium

The Southwest Indiana Graduate Medical Education Consortium is a collaboration of academic and hospital partners, including Indiana University School of Medicine, St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper and Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. The consortium offers a superior educational experience for southern Indiana’s residency programs.

The patient population in southern Indiana is ethnically and socioeconomically varied, providing a large, medically and socioeconomically diverse patient base for the resident-faculty practices. Physician educators who have faculty appointments with IU School of Medicine provide training of residents in these programs through scheduled rotations at partner facilities.

Resident Benefits

Indiana University School of Medicine residents working in southern Indiana are entitled to school amenities both regionally and statewide. Details about applying for residency at IU School of Medicine and details on employment are available through the Office of GME. This office serves as the human resource office for residents and fellows. In collaboration with the school’s affiliated hospitals throughout Indiana, the Office of GME provides administrative guidance and professional development for program directors, faculty, residents, fellows and coordinators to enhance administrative expertise toward fulfilling state and national requirements for ACGME, NRMP and other specialty organizations.

The clinical training facilities for this residency program are St. Vincent (Evansville), Good Samaritan Hospital (Vincennes), Memorial Hospital and Health Care (Jasper), and Deaconess (Evansville).

    Good Samaritan has a large rural socioeconomically varied primary care base, not only in Southern Indiana but extending almost 100 miles into 4 counties of southeastern Illinois.

    Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center offers a comprehensive range of acute medical services in a modern facility with a focus on quality patient care.
  • St Vincent Evansville
    St. Vincent is a regional care provider, with significant subspecialty resources and a large referral population from Southern Indiana, southeastern Illinois as well as western Kentucky, resulting in an economic base, which is a blend of rural, urban, and industrial.
