Molecular Medicine in Action celebrates 25 years of inspiring young minds and fueling scientific passion

Molecular Medicine in Action's (MMIA) 25th anniversary symposium occurred on March 3 and 4, 2024, bringing 50 high school students across Indiana to Indianapolis. The program hosted by the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research provided an immersive experience, offering participants insights into several medical research fields and exposing them to a spectrum of career opportunities in science from a diverse group of IU experts.

In March 2023, 10-year-old Emmaline Swigert was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Today, Emmaline is participating in an Indiana University School of Medicine-led clinical trial aimed at testing a pill that could help make life much easier for individuals like her living with the condition.
